Atlantik 1600-2

According to BMW Classic in Munich this very car was produced on the 19th of March 1971 and delivered to BMW of Italy on the 23rd of March 1971. This car was first registered on the 13th of May 1971. It was sold new in Italy in the province of Asti, near Turin. Mr. Saracco (born 1946) was the first, loving owner. He owned it up 2007 when he gave up driving. Yes, he owned it for 36 years.

Then it moved to Mr. Capello in Busca, Italy in 2007. In 2019 we bought this car from the 2nd. The car has only driven 84.000 kilometers / 52k miles. The car spent its entire life in Italy, whose climate was great to the body of this pristine 1600-2. We then sold to a customer in Europe and now in 2025 it’s back.

The car came to us in a very good and original condition. Please remember that when the last 2002’s left the factory in 1976 this was already an 5 year old car. The owners really took care of this car. It’s solid and has never been welded. This 1600-2 has all the correct details, which a lots of 02’s miss. The correct 3-piece dashboard with original instruments. Nice black doorpanels with nice chromeparts. Even the original carpets from 1971! The middle parts of the seats have been reupholstered, and apart from that it’s in the same condition as it left the factory in 1971. A cool feature are the recently installed NOS set of Klippan seatbelts, rare!

The car has been repainted once in Italy by the last owner. This was done beautifully. The car is beautifully straight with perfect panelgaps and fittings. The car is wearing all it’s original bodypanels. The front fenders have never been taken off, the original doors, original front valance. A beautiful damage-free body.

The paint shines like new and all windows and parts were taken off, as it should. Its wearing a perfectly painted coat of Atlantik blue

Brightwork in good original condition. Nice grilles and beautiful trim. The bumpers shine like new and the lights are nice and clear.

The undercarriage has been cleaned professionally and came out amazing. Absolute collectors quality and 100% original. What you see is how it left the factory. Original floors, rockers and wheelhousings in body color. Quality that is only left to be found in Italy. 

The engine bay looks beautiful with all correct decals. The original ‘matching numbers‘ 1,6 Liter engine runs perfectly. 

In 2019 we did a service with new oil, filters, plugs, points, plug leads, fuellines. We set the valve clearance and tuned the engine. A brand new clutch was installed as well as a rebuilt carburator.

This year, 2025 we have performed a further service with new front struts top mounts, oil-service, sparkplugs and new filters.

It starts up perfectly and drives lovely; very easy and light. 

A very nice 1600-2, a very early one which is very rare nowadays. Good, and correct examples of these early cars are very scarce today.
