’78 Alfa Sud

An exceptional and increasingly rare example of Alfa Romeo’s most innovative compact classic. This Italian-delivered 1978 Alfa Romeo Alfasud remains in non-restored, non-welded condition and stands out as one of the very few true survivors. Recently imported by us from the last owner in Italy. 

Alfa Romeo’s plant in Pomigliano d’Arco has produced an astonishing number of 893.179 Alfasud’s. Today it seems hardly any are left today in 2026. This very AlfaSud was bought new by the sisters Giuseppina (1939) and Anna Maria (1941) Cammareri from Milano in late 1978 for the amount of 3,862 million Italian lires. Driven numberplate MI46284E for it’s entire life, although the car wasn’t driven much. Just 13.800 kilometers. The sisters didnt use their car a lot and it was obviously parked inside and looked after. In 2022 the car was registered again and we have recently bought it from the last Alfist, also from Milan.
Finished in its original AR 015 Bianco Capodimonte, the car still wears its beautiful original paint, a clear testament to a life carefully preserved. The body is rust-free, something almost unheard of for an Alfasud, and the overall presentation reflects genuine collector quality rather than cosmetic refurbishment. This car is powered by the enthusiastic 1186cc 63 horsepower boxer engine which is mated to the 4-speed gearbox. The interior is beautiful! Very straight original vinyl doorpanels, a clean headliner, clean original carpets, a beautiful dashboard that never saw a radio from new. The steering wheel has a perfect texture and feels like new.
An excellent condition of the body throughout. Free of any rust, never welded on. Very clean and original doorbottoms, doorjambs, sills and floors. 

With just 13.844 kilometers from new, this Alfasud drives exactly as intended—light, responsive and remarkably engaging. The car is well sorted, drives amazingly, and is fitted with new tyres. The original owner’s manual is present in the boot lies its original and never-used spare tire as well a tool and jack.

The Alfasud was revolutionary in its era, and examples like this remind us why: low-mounted boxer engine, excellent balance and unmistakable Alfa Romeo character. Finding one in this condition, with such mileage and originality, is exceptionally rare.
