‘Das beste oder nichts’

Beautiful piece of 80’s German engineering. This Mercedes 300 D from the W123-Baureihe was found in Spain with only 66.000 kilometers. A beautiful unrestored and documented W123. The original service book is present, complete with stamps and original Datacard. This car was sold through Mercedes Benz dealer ‘Gran Via S.A.’ in Vigo, Spain and was sold new to a Mexican with a Holiday-home in the Vigo-area in Northern Spain. The handover-inspection was performed on the 27th of June 1983. The car was driven Tourist-numberplates: Only allowed to be driven 30 days per year. Which translates of the low-mileage of this very pure 300D. Only one owner from new. Always garage parked!

The car was orded in 881 Distelgrün (Thistle Green) over a 054 Dattel cloth interior. The original owner opted for world-famous ‘300D’. It has its original (matching numbers) OM617 3,0L 5-cylinder Diesel engine making 88 horsepower. Most cars either had the 4-speed or the Automatic. This car has the very rare Manual 5-speed gearbox. Furthermore it has electric windows in the front and tinted glass. The car is now 39 years old and is looking great.

The paint shows mostly original – the hood/bonnet shows 200 microns and appears to have been repainted (though invisible). Amazing to see a 1983 W123 Diesel in this condition. The body is incredibly straight – no dings, no scratches. The quality of these Benzes is just something different. The chrome and trim is original and looking great with a deep shine in the chrome. The doors shut and ‘clunk’ like on the 1st day. The body has no rust and it was never welded. The quality of the undercarriage is exceptional. All factory metal and coatings. The paint looks great and the body is nice and straight. 

The interior is clean, original and tight. The materials are of such a high quality: they look fresh 39 years later. Nice clean original carpets, clean headliner. The Dattel cloth seats hardly shows it’s age and they feel and sit tight: as you may expect with this mileage. The steeringwheel has an as-new feel with proper texture. The dashboard is free of cracks and the wood shines like new.
