Polaris 520

What a beautiful BMW 5-series. The E12 5-series came to market from August 1972 on and it was Paul Bracq’s first design for BMW. What a great, modern car with great packaging for 1972. 

This BMW 520 was built at BMW in Bavaria and delivered to BMW of Finland in 1976. It was sold new via BMW dealer Veho in Helsinki, Finland and sold new to Mr. Särkkinen from Espoo, Finland. Invoiced on the 22nd of November 1976. Ordered in 060 Polaris Silver over beautiful Marine blue velours interior. No extras: beautiful steel wheels, manual windows and a 4-speed transmission.
We have recently acquired this survivor from a Finnish BMW enthusiast. Why? All original paint and just 72.000 kilometers. A truly fantastic body and paint. Beautiful glossy paint and a perfectly straight body with great panelgaps. The chrome around the windows is in excellent condition and looks excellent. The bumpers are perfectly straight with a mirror finish on the chrome. Beautiful, as-new taillights, clear headlights, perfect kidney and black grilles. The trim is in fantastic condition!

The trunk is mint. The original set of tools is present as well as the original spare wheel including jack and tool. A non-scratched high-gloss black trunk floor. Mint, clean carpet, grey covers in as-new condition.

So is the engine-bay. All original, untouched, all chalk-marks, yellow paintmarks, all original decals. The yellow zinc-plating still yellow and the exhaust still grey. The engine runs like a new one and really ‘sings’. That’s how a 72.000 kilometers M10 engine should run! The engine starts up nicely and runs smooth through it’s dual Stromberg carburators. The 4-speed shifts with great ease and the differential is silent. 

Then the interior: Marine blue velours. Here it’s 100% original and looking amazing – still deep-blue and not faded from UV light. Carpets and headliner in excellent condition. A great interior with crisp headliner, clean carpets, the original gearknob and 4-spoke steering wheel. Perfect vinyl doorpanels, perfect switchgear.

The 4-cylinder is eager and the car feels tight. We have replaced the tires, changed the brakefluid and done basic maintenance.
