The succesor to the Tii and predecessor of the M3

The BMW E21 is BMW’s 1st 3-series and was a major succes to the company. It was the successor the BMW 02-series and came to the market in 1975 and succeeded by the E30-3-series. This very car was sold new in Spain via BMW Muntaña S.A. in Barcelona and was first registered on the 22nd of July 1981. Sold new to Mr. Juan Enrique. He drove on numberplate B-8032-EU which is still wears. When the first owner passed away, the car found it’s way to it’s second owner whom we recently bought it from. 

He ordered a near full-option car. Today it’s already quite hard to find a great E21 323i, but with this option list it’s much harder. He had gone for Metallic paint in 149 Sapphire Blue, green tinted heat insulating windows, a 5-speed gearbox, sunroof-delete, Airconditioning, pop-out windows, 4 headrests, sports steering wheel and a Blaupunkt Paris Stereo CR radio with BMW-Soundsystem (with rear speakers).

The condition of the car is beautiful. It’s not a restored car but a car that was really kept nicely through the years. Since the car led it’s life in sunny spain there is no rust  – really. Never welded on and showing excellent condition floors, sills, jackpoints. The trunks of the E21’s like to hold moisture and turn rusty after the years. Here it’s all factory sheetmetal in factory paint. Really unique to see a trunk this clean, this original after 42 years.

The body is very straight and wearing original panels: quarters, doors, wings, valances. Beautiful paint, great panelgaps. Chrome bumpers in good condition and good windows seals that recently had new chrome bezels. The trim around the windows is in great condition, the headlights are bright and the taillights in a good condition. 

On the inside very clean, original and correct. A nice dashboard with original instruments. Nice blue original carpets and original headliner in good condition. Clean seats and doorpanels. No additional speakers, a very nice place to be. It has a Frigette period-correct A/C system which is extremely rare on an E21 3-series. The system has been converted to modern R134a gas and currently blows cold.

The engine bay is very decent with original paint and stickers. The 2,3L M20 engine is the original, numbers-matching unit. It doesn’t leak or smoke and runs excellent. The Bosch injection system can be troublesome on these cars, not on this one. Perfect cold-start, idle, power-delivery and warm-start. We have done a recent service, more on that below. The car sits on H&R lowering springs and 15 inch Maxilite Alpina-reproduction wheels. A perfect replica of the genuine Alpina wheels, 6″ in the front, 7″ in the rear.

The car shows a documented and genuine 111.370 kilometers or 69.202 miles. It comes with the original binder with booklets: Owner’s manual, Blaupunkt manual, BMW Addressbook and ofcourse the original servicebook. It shows all the service stamps between 1981 and 2022! A couple of recent invoices are present that further document the mileage as well as Spanish technical control. 

All in all a very high-end E21 323i with all the right options, in a beautiful condition and technically 100% up to date.
