BMW’s fuel-injected Grand Tourer:
This BMW ‘three liter’ Coupe is a factory 3.0 CSi. It was produced by BMW in Bavaria on the 11th of August 1973 and was delivered to BMW of Italia in Palazzolo, northern Italy on the 25th of October ’73. The car was ordered in 060 Polaris Silver Metallic and was first registered on the 29th of January 1974. The car was sold new in Catania in the province of Ragusa on the island of Sicily, Italy. Mr. Fimochiano was the first and proud owner of this gorgous 3.0 CSi. The man ordered his CSi with factory Airconditioning!
The car comes with the original, first ‘Libretto’ (Registration) from Ragusa, Sicily. What a car must the 3.0 CSi have been in 70’s Sicily! In the early 2010’s the car was rediscovered and bought by a collector from Germany. The car had sat for a longer time un-used in Italy but was (and is) the perfect car to buy and start with. Why? Never welded on, all original bodypanels, very straight, factory CSi, factory Polaris and factory A/C. The car needed a light restoration, which is a good thing. Why? This car led it’s life in Sicily – a warm and dry climate. The car didnt need any welding and has a very solid, straight body. The A-pillars, engine-bay and inner-fenders are in great, original condition. The car was dis-assembled and painted completely in the original color 060 Polaris Silver. This was carried out very well – A nice, thin coat of Polaris, perfect panelgaps and a deep shine. All windows and trim we’re taken off – no masking marks. The engine-bay was painted too and looks beautiful.
Since the body is and was so original the car is beautifully straight and the typical bend/fold in the sides are there nicely. It wears original doors and fenders which contributes to a nice and straight car.
After the paintjob the car was assembled correctly and beautifully. New rocker covers with new trim, new emblems, and ofcourse all new gaskets and rubbers. The chrome around the car is in beautiful condition. The chrome bumpers are in very nice original condition and have been fitted with new rubber mouldings. The taillights are in beautiful original condition – quite rare to see them this nice. The chrome grilles on the fenders and hood have been repaced with new. Everything on and around the car is in very good orginal condition or replaced with new – nothing left forgotten.
The engine-bay of this E9 looks spectacular. New Polaris paint but factory mats on the inner fenders – unrestored! It even shows original decals. It’s 3.0 liter injection engine has been rebuilt in the past and runs perfectly. It’s the matching numbers unit and it doesnt leak or smoke.
The engine runs lovely: smooth idle, smooth on revs, silent and powerful. Everything around the engine has been reworked too: New cap, rotor, plugs, new waterpump, hoses, clamps, thermostat, belts.
The car sits on lowered suspension and drives lovely. Nice, firm shocks for a proper Grand Touring driving experience. The wheels are Alpina styele 7×14″ with new centercaps and new lugnuts. The 4-speed shifts lovely and the car has a near-new exhaust system. Its very rare to see an E9 3.0 CSi that has never been welded. It has the original floors, sills, a-pillars, everything. To prevent the A-pillars against the known problems Lokari wheel-well protection was installed.
The inside really gives a new-feeling. Beautifully reupholstered interior: seats and doorpanels. The seats have been redone in fantastic deep red genuine leather. The rear buckets we’re done too as well as all 4 doorpanels. The carpets have been replaced with correct anthracite loop-style material. The dashboard hasn’t been restored and shows the original vinyl and so is the center console with Blaupunkt radio. The wood on the dash and doorpanels are also original and in great condition. The factory A/C centerconsole is in excellent condition and the A/C actually works and blows cold.
The trunk shows it’s original grey paneling. Both over the wheelhousings as the flat panels over the tank and spare wheel. It houses a powdercoated spare wheel with new tire. The toolset in the trunk is original and complete! The fueltank has been powdercoated and sealed.
The car received a service, check-up and tune-up here in Oldenzaal. New fluids, valve adjustment, Ignition set, Injection set. The A/C works, Alignment done and every function working. Beautiful 3.0 CSi that is ready to use.
A 49 years old gem of a 3.0 CSi. Restored, tried, tested, driven car. It runs, drives and looks excellent and needs no further work. Ready for any collection or drive.
