M-Powered 3.0 Batmobile
On offer is this BMW 3.0 CS which was has been built as a tribute to the 70’s Group 2 3.0 CSL race car, as been driven by Brian Redman and Ronnie Peterson in the mid-Seventies. The glory days of motor racing with firebreathing CSL’s, Capri’s and 911’s.
This very car started life in Germany and first registered on the 31th of October 1975 as a 3.0 CS. Between 2010 and 2015 this car was built by Mr. Rapp of JPS Racing. Who has raced vintage Lotus racecars. He had the dream to build a CSL Racecar and has done so.
A good and solid 3.0 CS base-car was sourced and completely stripped. A compete Batmobile bodykit out of polyester was sourced and installed from Schmidt Kunststofftechnik. 4 fenders, trunkspoiler, roof spoiler as well as a fiber front hood – very light. The complete car, including it’s undercarriage was then painted in white. A complete roll-cage has also been fitted.
The interior was completely stripped, kept simple and in line with the period race cars. The correct Italvolanti Indianapolis Formel steering wheel. New Recaro seats with 5-point OMP seatbelts. The steering column has been lowered, just like in the factory CSL cars. Great driving position. Battery kill-switch, fuelpump switch, starter button and extra gauges are all present.
The engine is BMW’s most fantastic iteration of the M30 engine. The S38 – Built by BMW Motorsport for the BMW E34 M5. Based on the M30 block (like in factory 3.0CS/CSL) but in this case 3,55L displacement, 24-valve-cylinderhead and making 315 horsepower and 360 newtonmeters of torque. The engine was placed further back in the car, for improved weight distribution. The gearbox is the famous 5-speed dogleg (1st gear below) – excellent for circuit driving. The exhaust exiting on the side makes it look and sound even better – just like the cars back in the day.
The car sits on a set of KW Coilover Suspension. KW from Germany is the market leader in high performance suspension. The wheels are multi-piece BBS wheels in 17 inch. With very wide rubber: 255/40/17 in the front and 335/35/17 in the rear.
Driving the car is absolutely invigorating. The engine makes a fantastic inlet sound screaming through the six butterfly valves. The exhaust note is lovely, not too loud. The body is tight, light and very easy to steer.Â
Fantastic looking beast of a 3.0 CS now Available.
