This BMW 2800 CS was produced on the 21st of September 1970 in Bavaria and delivered to BMW Italia S.p.A in Palazzolo, Verona, Italy on the 1st of October ’70 in this color 085 Chamonix-white. A timeless and popular color that always looks good: then & now – especially with the green tinted windows. A typical Italian configuration in classy white with a Marine Velours interior, the original 3-spoke steering wheel and all the chrome it looks amazing. Beautiful lines, a chic presence and possibly BMW’s most beautiful car.
First registered in 1971 as a late BMW 2800 CS, the 3.0 CS came to market in late 1971 as the sucessor. In it’s early days the car was driven by Mr. Roscini (Born 1932) from the Perugia area in mid-Italy. We haven recently acquired this car from a younger BMW enthusiast from the village of Foligno – just 20 miles from Perugia.
What a magnificent car have we found! Very happy to have found an early E9 in such a condition. The car is partially wearing original paint. The body hasn’t been restored and it doesnt show any signs of any major welding done. The engine-bay, trunk and the interior are original and non-restored. Something one will hardly find these days!
The body is very original, solid and straight. Wearing original bodypanels, has original floors and a solid enginebay and a-pillars. A very honest and original survivor. It is not a restored car, but has been looked after. The car was always kept up to date and thanks to the Italian climate and caring owners the body is solid. We have measured the paint of every panel, find the pictures in the album. This car is wearing sub-150 micron paint on roof, bonnet and trunklid. Amazing on a 52 year old Coupe.
The factory seats and rearseats of this car wear their factory blue Velours cloth. They sit firm and the color is still deep blue. No tears, not repaired or restored but grown old as a whole. The doorpanels are the original parts from 1970 and remain in beautiful condition. A clean original headliner and the original blue carpets. It shows beautiful woodpanelling on the mint, crack-free dashboard. It really documents how well this car was kept in 52 years and documents its low mileage of only 106k kilometers / 66k miles. It even has the original 3 spoke steering wheel with original leather. The original radio plays nicely and it has an electric antenna.
The famous ‘M30’ 2.8 liter straight six engine in this car runs amazing. It’s the original matching numbers unit that runs excellent. The cylinderhead has been rebuilt and put together with new headgaskets and seals. The engine is lively, runs smooth and goes eager through the revs. It’s mated to a smooth shifting 4-speed gearbox. The car has completely been gone through and tested in our workshop. It sits on a restored set of 7×14″ wheels with new tires, emblems and wheelnuts. It’s an absolute joy to drive: the engine is lively, it shifts smooth and it steers precise. The roadholding is excellent also at higher speeds. Really a Grand Tourer – it must have been fantastic driving this new in 1970’s Italy!
The trunk presents nice and original with the correct and original elephant-skin panels. The factory toolbox is present along with all tools, a jack, a spare-wheel.
In our workshop we have completely checked, tested and repaired this CS from A to Z.
