This BMW 2000 Touring was ordered new by Mr. Müller at Autohaus Mahle on the 11th of June 1971. The original hand-written order sheet is present. Mr. Müller, a business-owner from Nurtingen, near Stuttgart went to the local BMW dealer to order his new 02 Touring. He went for the 2,0 Liter 2000 Touring in bright Golf Yellow over Black vinyl. He paid 496 Deutsch Marks for a sunroof, 48 DM for a rear foglight, 128 DM for a rev counter. Furthermore he ordered a Blaupunkt Frankurt radio, Tinted glass, Alloy sport wheels, Michelin tires, extra headlights, and one Recaro S Sportseat. Yes, one Recaro seats ordered from new, this was done more often in the 70’s on BMW’s and Porsches.
BMW’s first Touring
Mr. Müller had to wait until November of that year. The hand-written order-sheet is present, but also the invoice from Autohaus Mahle, containing all options. The car was delivered on the 23rd of November and 1st registered on that day. Mr Müller drove the car up to the year 2000, he is the first and only owner – the car comes with the original german registration. He kept track of all invoices of maintainance and repairs. The best documented 02 i’ve encountered, everything from ordering to now is present. Even the original ‘Packzettel’ / Packing list is present showing that Jack, tool, cigarette lighter, and owners manual are present on delivery. Ofcourse the original Owner’s Manual is present, as well the as the rare Touring-specific manual and the service booklet. WIth all stamps of the maintaince carried out. This car is documented from 0 kilometers at day 1, until 192.862 (119k miles) in 2021. The car has been signed off for road usage in 2000, and has been in a collection since.
The condition of the car is very nice. Beautiful Golf yellow paint on a solid body. It has the rare factory sunroof that works excellent. The interior is completely original: The original Recaro seat + normal seat in original vinyl. Not restored, not repaired. The original carpets, doorpanels in excellent condition and original instruments. The Blaupunkt Frankfurt that was ordered new is still present and playing nicely. The engine-bay is nice and has original paint. The engine is the original Matching #’s unit and it runs excellent thanks to a rebuild in 2001. It starts up directly and runs lively.
The last few years the car hasn’t been on the road that much, we did a thorough inspection and have done everything neccesary on the car. Both technically as well as cosmetic in excellent shape. In short:
- Valve adjustment
- Carb tuning
- Oil + Filter
- Gearbox oil
- Differential oil
- New Exhaust front to back
- Brake cylinders rear
- Subframe bushings
- Seals for Differential
Now ready for the next 50 years. 100% serviced and ready to be enjoyed.
